Water Based Module

Sweep Stroke

The Sweeper ;")

One of the skills that I learned during my Water-Based Module was Sweep Stroke. This is a skill that I feel is very challenging to me as would occasionally shake my boat due to my size. But that did not stop me from perfecting my sweep stroke. I feel that the more I practice my sweep stroke, the more meaning it was to me as it allows me to spin on the spot without going big round to turn my boat.

Eskimo Bow Recovery

C Curve;")

One of the skills that I learned during my Water-Based Module was Eskimo Bow Recovery. To me, Eskimo Bow Recovery is very challenging at the start. Having your underwater orientation is not something easy and looking up to find the bow of the boat is also another challenge. But slow and surely when practicing, it became very meaningful to me to continue doing this skill as it allows me to come up from my capsize position at a faster pace than wet-exit.

Low Brace Recovery

Square Box;")

Low brace recovery is a skill that I feel is very useful whenever I'm about to capsize. One of it challenges that I had was not being able to brace properly, cutting the paddle out of the water, causing me to capsize into the water. But a meaningful process to get it right. Doing a low brace, it allows me to have more confidence in the water, not worrying about capsizing.  â€‹

How has it shaped me?

S233 module, or Water-Based Module, is one of the most fun but skill heavy modules to me. At first, when I started learning about kayaking, I was full of myself thinking that I know the basics of kayaking. But after learning more in-depth about it, I found out that there is more than that. At the start of my first few weeks, I learned about edging that was never taught to me when I was learning my 1-star kayaking. Edging has really helped me in many aspects when kayaking. Firstly would be how it assisted in the turning of the kayak. Secondly would be in the usage of my draw strokes. Besides just kayaking, I was also taught what RAMs is all about. Risk Assessment Management is something very important when doing planning an expedition trip out either at sea or at reservoirs. Being able to find out what kind of danger we might face during the expedition would assist us in keeping our safety in check. Another skill that would assist me in my outdoor life would be being able to read on how the waves. During an expedition at sea, using the waves to our advantage would allow us to save a lot of strength. Besides that, we would also be able to avoid different sea heights, as it is a very dangerous factor to kayakers. S233 has expanded my knowledge more about what is there toward water activities. I would use these bits of knowledge that has been pared onto me to teach future mini-me;")
