Climb and Abseil Module

Soft Lock with 3 Leg Wrap

The Softy

One of the skills that I learned during my Climb and Abseil lesson would be doing Soft Lock and 3 Leg Wrap. This skill allows me to have a quick adjustment of my equipment. This skill is to lock me in place on my rope so that I do not slip down when adjusting myself. As an outdoor trainer, whenever I need to adjust something along the way down and it's a quick and easy lock to do it and an easy release when wanting to continue down.

Dispatcher and Rescuer

The Dispatch Hero

Learning how to dispatch a inexperience participant and what to do during a emergency when my participant is stuck on the abseil line is something I learn a lot from. Dispatching taught me how to be aware of my surrounding and safety that is needed at all time. Being a rescuer on a releasable abseil line also taught me how to be quick and efficient, not delaying a second to do it and also how to communicate with my participant ensuring that they are alright.

Self Rescue

The Dropper

Self-rescue is one of my favourite skills to do. This skill has taught me how to be dependent on myself and also how trust my assessory cords. As and Outdoor trainer, I would need to know how to get myself out of any situation or even improvise on the spot. If I have jammed myself, I would need to act and think quickly to get myself out of this sticky situation to stop myself from hanging.

How has it shaped me?

S237 module, or Water-Based Module, is another of the most fun but skill heavy modules to me. At first, when I started learning about climb and abseil, I was excite as I get to learn all the basic technique of climbing, belaying and abseiling. As I came in with a bit of knowledge about what the lesson is going to be about, I was taken aback by what was taught. There was much more thing to learn. So firstly, what I learn personally is to not be complacent when doing high rope activities. Always needing a safety line at all time is needed when I am doing safety checks or even dispatching my participat, whether they are on safety to. Anothing thing I have learn personally would be that even though have the skills, when I am not supervised at any point in time, as we would need to be dependable, I should all take note of possible danger that might happen or any situation that may pop up. Having this would make me more efficient in my thinking and adapting to the situation. Professionally, I have learn to be more cautions of the surrounding around me, and be vigilant to make notice of the danger that might happen and deal with it professionally. S237 module has modeled me into being a rope specialist, expanded my knowledge more about what is there toward climbing and abseiling activities. I would use these bits of knowledge that has been pared onto me to teach future mini-me;")
